NewsMeter ran a keyword search in order to find the original version of both interviews to get a complete idea about the edited clips. It was found that they were merged in the viral claim.
Our keyword search led us to the full version of Ronaldo's clip in the viral video. The YouTube interview was shared by sky sports channel in January 2022.On analyzing the video carefully, we found out that Cristiano Ronaldo did not mention a word about Elon Musk buying his club or that he being interested in playing under the ownership of Musk.Here Ronaldo is seen to be expressing his disappointment over the performance of his team in premier league. He did not mention a single time about quitting Manchester.
Moving to the other part of the viral video, where Elon Musk made an announcement on buying Manchester United club. We landed on a podcast with Lex Fridmem where Elon Musk be seen talking about spaceX, Tesla autopilot, self-driving, robotics, Mars and AI on YouTube. On analysing the video carefully, we could not find any mention of the intend to buy Manchester United football club because he likes Ronaldo.
