HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi used to sell tea during his childhood at the Vadnagar railway station in Gujarat. Vadnagar in Gujarat's Mehsana district is Modi's hometown. In 2019, this station was turned into a tourist spot. In July 2021, Modi virtually inaugurated a revamped Vadnagar railway station where he used to sell tea during his childhood.
However, social media users are claiming that the tea selling story is fake. It is being claimed that Modi could not have sold tea at the Vadnagar railway station during his childhood as it was constructed in 1973 when Modi was 23 years old.
The claim is false.
NewsMeter searched through the dateline of the Vadnagar railway station on the Western Railways website and found a document on the history of Indian Railways.
