Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the original speech of PM Modi has been edited to make it look like he is supporting AIMIM.

Upon searching with relevant keywords, we found the viral clip’s original and extended video on Modi's official YouTube channel. The title of the video uploaded on May 10 reads, "PM Modi Live | Public meeting in Hyderabad, Telangana | Lok Sabha Election 2024".

At 12:47 minutes into the video, PM Modi could be heard saying, “Congress... nakko (meaning no in English), BRS... nakko, MIM.... nakko, BJP ko eech vote denge (we will only vote for BJP), BJP ko jeetayenge (will ensure win for BJP).” There is no mention of him in the segment or in rest of the video where he is endorsing AIMIM.

We also found news reports by Hindustan Times and The Statesman which reported the original speech of PM Modi advocating against voting for Congress, BRS and MIM. NewsMeter also published a similar report on May 10 on PM Modi’s visit to Telangana for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

Hence, we conclude that the video of PM Modi asking people to vote for AIMIM is edited. Also going by the laughing emojis layered over the video, one can conclude it was made in satire. However, it is important to have discretion as such videos can be used to spread misinformation.
