Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the viral video is part of an advertisement campaign for a new product launched by Oppo India.

We found a longer version of the video posted by the verified Twitter handle of Oppo India. It shows Ranbir Kapoor gifting a new phone to a fan after throwing away his old phone. According to the tweet, Ranbir Kapoor gifted a fan a new Oppo Reno 8T which is releasing on 3 February.

Further, we found that the boy receiving the new phone in the video is Nainesh Karamchandani, an actor. He also posted the longer version of the video on Instagram and said Ranbir Kapoor is a sweetheart and that he did not throw away his phone.

It is evident that the viral video of Ranbir Kapoor throwing a fan’s phone is not a real incident but part of an advertisement campaign by Oppo India for the launch of its new phone Oppo Reno 8T. Hence, we conclude that the claim by social media users and media outlets is misleading.
