Did Ratan Tata avoid cancer hospital inauguration because of Jagan Reddy?

HYDERABAD: Tata Trusts inaugurated the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Cancer Care & Advanced Research in Tirupati.

Later rumors spread Chairman Ratan Tata did not attend the event due to the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

A Telugu post claimed that the Tata Trust group mentioned that Ratan Tata said he would not be a part of the inauguration as Jagan was invited too. The post claimed the reason for Ratan Tata's absence was financial problems with Jagan and the lack of investment in Jagan's decisions.

FACT CHECK:

Tata Trust had set up the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Cancer Care & Advanced Research Center (SVICCAR) in Tirupati on 5 May 2022. According to the press release by Tata Trust, Jagan Reddy inaugurated the SVICCAR in the presence of many esteemed the Chairman of TTD, Executive Officer of TD, CEO of Tata Trusts, Chief Executive of ACF, and other key personnel of TTD, Alamelu Charitable Foundation (ACF) and Tata Trusts.

Although Ratan Tata did miss out on the event. However, the press statement was silent on this issue. It did not say Ratan Tata did not attend because of Jagan.

In 2017, Tata Trusts signed an agreement with the TTD for setting up a cancer center in Tirupati. In 2018, Tata Trusts started constructing the 300-bedded Sri Venkateswara Institute of Cancer Care & Advanced Research - in Tirupati. The ceremony saw the presence of N. Chandrababu Naidu, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Ratan N. Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts, and many other esteemed officials.

NewsMeter contacted Tata Trust and received clarification that the reasoning for Ratan Tata's absence at the Tata Cancer Center inauguration event is completely untrue.

Thus, the claim is false.
