Hyderabad: A video of a man being shot several times in broad daylight while he was painting a wall has gone viral. Those sharing the video claim that it is from the Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh.
An X user posted the video with the caption, āMurder done in filmy style, video is going viral on social media, it is being told of Muzaffarnagar district (translated from Hindi).ā We have not provided the link to the video due to its extremely graphic and disturbing nature.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The video is from Brazil, not Uttar Pradesh.
A reverse image search led us to a report by Portaltucuma titled āPCC gunmen film the execution of āOlhĆ£oā in Manaus.ā The report stated that the video shows Lucas Pereira, also known as OlhĆ£o, being executed by PCC gunmen while he worked at a commercial location on Penetracaao 2 street, Novo Aleixo neighbourhood, Manaus, Brazil. According to the report, the shooters filmed the video themselves.
Also, we did a keyword search where we found an X post by the Muzaffarnagar police confirming that the video was not from Muzaffarnagar.
The police clarified that the video being circulated on social media, with the claim that it is from under the Nai Mandi police station limits in Muzaffarnagar, is false.
The police said that legal action is being pursued against the person who shared the video. Nai Mandi CO also released a video confirming the same.
Hence, the claim that the viral video of a painter being gunned down is from Muzaffarnagar is false. The video is from Brazil and has no connection to India.
