Hyderabad: Several Facebook users are sharing a link claiming that Coca-Cola is using its welfare fund to give users a chance to win money in a lottery contest.
FACT CHECK:
This link is fake.
After clicking on the viral link, the user is redirected to a page that contains the warning "Deceptive site ahead". This would not appear if the website was authentic. The real link to Coca-Cola's website is https://www.coca-colacompany.com/.
With respect to the viral link, the Cambodian ministry of interior's anti-cybercrime department has issued a statement and warned people to be on the alert for a scam on social media related to winning Coca-Cola prizes. The anti-cybercrime department director, Chea Pov, said, "Social media users are asked to ignore this type of message as it is a scam. Do not click any links or share any information through the message as it is a waste of time and money."
A statement was also issued by Coca-Cola Philippines Careers that clarified that "Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines, Inc. does not distribute any link under "Coca-Cola Welfare Fund" that requires a survey in exchange for cash incentives". It advised citizens to remain vigilant against any scam and to only engage with company representatives who use the official company email address @coca-cola.com.ph.
Clearly, the viral link claiming that the Coca-Cola welfare fund is giving users a chance to win money in a lottery is fake.
