Does trending hashtag #RIPCartoonNetwork mean Cartoon Network is shutting down?

Hyderabad: Recently, a video claiming the closure of the most favourite channel has gone viral with a not so pleasing hashtag.

The viral post claims that Cartoon Network is on the verge of shutting down. Social media users are tagging the viral video with the hashtag #RIPCartoonNetwork.

A Facebook user shared the video and wrote, "The mid 80s into the 90s I might say had the best of Cartoon network. It was so easy to leave your kids without worrying about corrupting them. Cartoons had the funny ones, family ones, science, adventure and loads of education. Lately, you literally have to watch them first, screen them before handing over your kids to watch."

It's hard to believe that our childhood best friend is bidding a final goodbye. That's why we decided to verify the viral post.

FACT CHECK

We decided to go to the most reliable source and directly landed on the official Facebook page of Cartoon Network and found a post that is enough to put a full stop to the chaos around the closure rumours.

"To our fans: We're not going anywhere. We have been and always will be your home for beloved, innovative cartoons," reads the post by Cartoon Network.

It had also tweeted the same.

We performed a keyword search that led us to a report by Collider. The report says Cartoon Network is merging with Warner Bros. It says the announcement was made on Tuesday via a company-wide memo from chairman Channing Dungey and revealed to staff that Warner Bros. Animation (WBA) and Cartoon Network Studios (CNS) will be merged in order to consolidate their animation division, with Warner Bros.

It is evident that our beloved channel is not going anywhere. It is only merging with Warner Bros. Hence, the claim is false.
