NewsMeter found that the video is from 2011 and shows the promotion of Don 2.
While skimming through the viral post, we found a user commenting that the video is from Patna, as Biscomaun Bhawan can be clearly seen.

Biscomaaun Bhawan is the tallest building in Patna, Bihar. It houses several administrative offices.
Taking a cue from this, we ran a relevant keyword search and found the same video published on the verified YouTube channel Excel Movies dated December 22, 2022, titled “Don Fans In Patna.” As per the description, Don’s cast and crew were welcomed by a huge crowd of excited fans.
We also found an image of SRK gesturing to fans published on the photo stock website Alamy on December 22, 2011, titled “Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, left, gestures to fans during a promotional event for his new film Don 2 in Patna, India. The film is released Friday, Dec.23.” The image also shows the white building as in the viral image.
To investigate further, we compared the photo of Biscomaaun Bhawan available on Google Maps with the white building visible in SRK’s image and found it similar.
Hence, we conclude that the viral video dates back to 2011 and the claim that it shows the crowd gathered to see SRK in Chennai is false.
