Hyderabad: In light of the assassination attempt on former United States president Donald Trump during a campaign rally for the 2024 US presidential elections, a video claiming to show a Kurdish-Iranian man hitting Donald Trump on the back of his head has gone viral.
An X user shared the video with the caption, āDuring his speech yesterday, Trump received a strong backhand blow from a young Iranian Kurd that he will not forget for the rest of his life. Immediately before the speech, Trump had mocked an Iranian woman who was wearing a Kurdish dress, which angered the husband, and he looked for an opportunity to take revenge. The Kurdish man and woman are originally from Sanandaj in the Kurdistan region of Iran and live in America (translated from Arabic).ā
The text in the video reads, āTrump makes fun of Kurdish women, Kurdish man attacks Trump for talking to Kurdish women.ā
NewsMeter found that the claim is false. It is an old video that has been edited.
A reverse image search led us to a YouTube video by CBS News dating to March 12, 2016, titled āWatch: Secret Service run to Trump as protester rushes stageā.
This indicated that the video was not recent. We also found that the viral clip was edited, as the person attacking Trump in the video is not present in the original footage. In the edited version, the individual is seen entering the stage at 0:05 seconds, which is missing in the original video; instead, only the applause of the audience is heard.

A keyword search revealed a report by NBC titled āSecret Service Rushes Stage to Protect Donald Trump at Ohio Rallyā.
According to the report, the incident happened during Donald Trumpās rally at the Dayton International Airport, Ohio, where a man āattempted to breach the secure buffer and was removed rapidly and professionally.ā
The suspect was identified as Thomas Dimassimo, 32, and was charged with disorderly conduct and inducing panicāboth misdemeanours. Dimassimo jumped the bike racks and tried to climb onto the stage but was stopped by Secret Service agents stationed there, the report stated.
