Edited video of Rahul Gandhi about Atta goes viral

A cropped video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has gone viral on social media.

In the video, he can be heard saying that the price of wheat flour (atta) has increased from Rs 22 per liter to 40 rupees per liter.

Gandhi immediately corrected the unit from liter to kg. But the corrected portion has been trimmed out in the viral video.

The video comes from the 'Mehengai Par Halla Bol' rally organized by the Congress party against inflation, unemployment, and the Goods and Services Tax hike at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, 4 September 2022.

The video is being widely circulated by many verified users. Shehzad Jai Hind, the national spokesperson of the BJP, posted the video and wrote, "Rahul Gandhi: ATTA 22 rupaye per litreaaj 40 rupaye per liter. Taking Rahul Gandhi seriously on price rise is like taking Congress seriously on fighting corruption & taking Hitler seriously on human rights! During UPA it was double-digit inflation for long periods."

Several Facebook users are also sharing the cropped video.

Fact Check

NewsMeter ran a keyword search on Twitter and found a longer version of the video posted by the ANI.

In the 1.02-minute video, he compares the hike in the price of several commodities between 2014 and 2022. While enlisting the price of LPG, petrol, diesel, and other commodities. After 0.40 seconds, he can be heard speaking about the increase in the price of wheat flour from 22 rupees per liter to 40 rupees per liter but he immediately corrects the unit to kg in the same breath.

We also checked the full speech of Rahul Gandhi uploaded by the Congress party on its verified YouTube channel. At the 9.56-minute, Gandhi can be seen doing the same error and correcting himself.

Therefore, it is evident that Gandhi corrected himself after the gaffe. However, the viral video doing the rounds is cropped and misleading.
