Hyderabad: No, Elon Musk did not endorse ‘Shilajit.’, Viral video has been doctored with a cloned voice.

Recently, a video of Elon Musk, in which he can be seen endorsing Shilajit as an anti-aging, hair-restoring, and revitalizing remedy, is doing the rounds on social media.

In the viral video, Elon Musk can be heard saying, “There’s this stuff called shilajit, I think, and it’s supposed to be an anti-aging remedy, a hair loss remedy, and the most powerful source of energy for our body. I get mine from a company called Natural Rems. They are amazing.”

In another video, he can be heard saying, “The problem is that you’re depressed. You’re depressed because you live a terrible unhappy lifestyle. You eat badly, you don’t sleep, and you have no energy. But what if I told you there is a way to fix all of that with this supplement called shilajit from NaturalRems?”

Is this legit? Let’s find out.

FACT CHECK

NewsMeter found that the claim is false and the viral video is doctored using voice cloning.

We ran a reverse image search using keyframes extracted from the InVid tool and found the full version of the video on the YouTube channel TED. It is titled “Elon musk talks Twitter, Tesla and how his brain works - live at TED2022” and is dated 14 April 2022.

Upon carefully analyzing the entire 54.45-minute video, we found that the frame is exactly the same as in the viral video. The 10-second clip used in the viral video can be seen at the 13.20-minute mark.
