Hyderabad: An image of a group of people with swords is being shared on social media and is being linked to the recent riots in the Jahangirpuri area in Delhi.

Fact Check

The claim is false.

NewsMeter performed a Google reverse image search that led us to a blog post from 18 December 2010. The image was also posted on another blog on 17 August 2013.

Asia News published a similar image on 29 April 2010. According to the report, "A gang of Hindu extremists affiliated with the Bajrang Dal attacked a group of Christian women and children who were coming from a peace festival. The incident occurred in a village in the State of Karnataka. During the attack, the Hindu extremists called in police who instead of stopping the attackers arrested the women and children. The latter were kept in jail overnight and released the next morning (sic)."

It is therefore evident that the claim made through the viral post is false. The viral image is not related to the recent Jahangirpuri riot in Delhi.
