Hyderabad: A message is going viral on WhatsApp and Facebook claiming that President Ram Nath Kovind's daughter Swati who was working as an Air India flight attendant has been assigned ground duties in view of security reasons. This move comes after Tata's takeover of the airline, it is being claimed.
Fact Check
The claim is misleading.
NewsMeter performed a keyword search that led us to a Hindustan Times report from 12 November 2017 titled "President Kovind's daughter gets ground role at Air India due to security reasons."
The report read, "President Ram Nath Kovind's daughter Swati, who was an air hostess with national carrier Air India, has been assigned ground duties because of security reasons, according to the airline's spokesperson. Swati, who doesn't use a surname, was a cabin crew on Air India's long-haul Boeing 787 and Boeing 777 flights, but for nearly a month now she has been deputed with Air India's integration department at the airline's headquarters here, the official said. The department oversees the human resource integration of erstwhile Indian Airlines and Air India since their merger in 2007."
Others, including NDTV and The New Indian Express, had also reported the same in 2017.
It is also to be noted that Tata took over the control and management of Air India in January 2022. However, Swati was assigned ground duties in 2017.
Hence, it is evident that the claim made through the viral post is misleading. It is true that President Kovind's daughter was moved from cabin crew to ground duty for security reasons but this happened in 2017 and not after Tata took over Air India recently.
