Hyderabad: A video of police a group of female students, their faces covered in dupattas, talking to a police officer is doing the rounds of social media. It is being claimed that when medical students in Eluru went to the police station to talk about their problems, a constable in civil uniform was recording the students. The video shows a cop assaulting a student.

Fact Check:

The claim is misleading.

NewsMeter ran a reverse image search and found news articles from May 2019. According to the reports, medical students of Alluri Sitarama Raju Academy of Medical Sciences (ASRAMS) in Eluru were protesting against the administration for not giving them summer holidays. The situation escalated when a policeman assaulted one of the female students.

A report by The Logical Indian quoted the DGP of Eluru as saying, "We were asked by the management to control the situation. We were told that the students were trying to hinder workflow of the medical college."

As per the reports, the constable in civil uniform was recording female students. When the students noticed this, they tried to snatch the camera from him. Amid this, a male constable jumped in and grabbed a female student, and pulled her aggressively. Later, the girl was isolated from others and moved to other locations.
