Hyderabad: An eight-second video of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary is being widely shared on social media and is being linked to the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections. Sharing the video, users are claiming that Mr. Chaudhary made objectionable remarks about Jats.

In the video, Mr. Chaudhary can be heard saying, "What will a Jat voter do? What is the mind of a Jat voter? Sorry, I have not taken responsibility for this."

The claim is false.

NewsMeter ran a keyword search which led us to a video by India TV from 31 March 2019. The viral news clipping can be seen at the 0:12-second mark. According to the description of the video, Jayant Chaudhary said that he would talk about the farmers and not the Jats.


News18, UP Punjab Kesari, and UP Tak had also reported it on 31 March 2019.

It is therefore evident that the claim made through the viral post is false. A statement by Jayant Chaudhary from 2019 is being shared as recent.
