Fact Check: 2019 video of pro-CAA rally falsely linked to farmers protest

Hyderabad: A video showing a crowd shouting its support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Delhi police has gone viral on social media with the claim that it is related to the ongoing farmers' agitation.

The crowd can be heard chanting, "Modiji lath bajao hum tumhare saath hai, Delhi police lath bajao hum tumhare saath hai," (Modi hit them down, we are with you, Delhi Police hit them down, we are with you).

The video became viral after the protesting farmers entered Delhi's Red Fort during the 26 January Kisan Gantantra Parade.

Fact Check:

NewsMeter found that the viral video is not related to the farmers' protest and it has been on the Internet since December 2019.

We performed a reverse image search using INVID and found a report from December 2019 by Lokmat News. According to the report, the video is related to the CAA protests. BJP leader Jawahar Yadav had tweeted the video in December 2019, it said.

It should be noted that since the viral video has been on the Internet since 2019 and the farmers' protest started in late 2020, it is evident that the claim is FALSE.

An old video from a pro-CAA rally organized in 2019 has been revived and falsely linked to the farmers' protest.
