Fact Check: Amul is not doling out cash prizes, viral message is hoax

Hyderabad: A WhatsApp message asking people to participate in a survey and win Rs. 6000, is viral on social media.

The message contains the link and people are asked to click on it and participate in the survey.

NewsMeter received the link as a forwarded message on WhatsApp.

Here is the link.

Fact Check:

The claim is false.

NewsMeter opened the link and was redirected to a 'knowledgeable.XYZ, which does not seem to be related to Amul.

Users are asked to answer questions in order to receive the cash prize. Later, they are asked to click on the gifts. Three chances are given to the users. The team noticed that with a second chance, a user wins the gift. Once a user wins a prize, the website asks him to share it with 20 groups of friends on WhatsApp. It also asks the user to enter his or her personal and financial details. This pattern has been noticed in many scams. It connected the link to the IP address of the user and is a common method to steal and hack information.

Next, it did not look like the official Amul website. We checked the official Amul website and found no such announcement. The spam website has the logo of Amul, which is clearly not the real one.

See the comparison.

Our team checked the official Twitter page and found that Amul refuted the claim. The company said a fake message is being circulated.

The viral link is a Hoax.
