A video showing a bridge collapse is circulating on social media, with many claiming it highlights another recent incident in Bihar.
The 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections are expected to be held in October-November 2025. The current assembly term ends on November 22.
As the elections approach, a video of a bridge collapse is being widely shared online. Users claim this is a recent event, using it to criticise the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar. Such posts have gained traction since Bihar has seen several bridge collapses between 2022 and 2024.
An X account posted the video with the caption: “#BreakingNews The 1,200 crore bridge being built over Kosi River between Supaul and Madhubani collapsed. Several workers were trapped in the debris, some injured, and fears of fatalities. #Bihar #BiharElection.”
Another X user wrote, “The truth about development exposed. Another under-construction bridge worth 1,200 crore collapsed in Bihar. Reports of several workers being trapped, #Bihar #BiharVoters.”
NewsMeter reviewed the claim and found it misleading. The video does show a bridge collapse over the Kosi River in Bihar’s Supaul-Madhubani area. However, this incident happened in 2024—not recently.
A keyword search shows former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav shared the same video on March 22, 2024. He said an under-construction bridge worth ₹1,200 crore had collapsed over the Kosi River between Bheja and Bakaur in the Supaul–Madhubani region. He mentioned that several workers were trapped, injured, and there were fears of fatalities.
Yadav criticised the state government in his post, suggesting that the collapse of bridges worth crores has become a recurring event. He called for proper medical care for the injured, compensation for victims, and action against the responsible company and officials.
We also found the same video footage of the bridge collapse in Bihar’s Supaul–Madhubani area reported by media outlets like India Today and News18 Bihar-Jharkhand on March 22, 2024. India Today reported that one person died in the collapse, and several others were believed to be trapped.
The Hindu also reported on March 22, 2024, that the country’s largest Bakaur Bridge, under construction over the Kosi River, collapsed in Supaul district that morning. One person died and nine others were injured.
Hence, it is clear that the viral video shows a bridge collapse in Bihar in 2024. Claims describing it as another recent collapse are misleading.
