Fact Check: Are petrol prices higher in Telangana compared to BJP-ruled states? Heres the truth

Hyderabad: A post claiming that petrol prices are higher in Telangana compared to the BJP-ruled states is doing the rounds of social media.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is misleading.

Retail prices of petrol/diesel are on the rise in line with rising international crude oil prices. In many states, the price of a litre of petrol has crossed Rs. 110.

The price of a litre of petrol in the country is highest in Maharashtra and Telangana, taking into account the price of a litre of petrol sold by HPCL in different states.

According to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), petrol prices remain high in NDA-ruled states like Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. (Source: Hindustan Times, Dainik Bhaskar)

However, in Hyderabad, the average price of a litre of petrol is Rs. 119, while in NDA-ruled states like Bihar, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, the average price of a litre of petrol is Rs. 116 and Rs. 118.

Hence, the claim is misleading.
