Hyderabad: A message claiming that the Central government has announced "National Scholarship 2022" is doing the rounds of social media. It says that college students can get scholarships of up to Rs. 30,000.
The message also includes a link.
Fact Check
The message is a hoax.
NewsMeter noticed that the viral message did not have proper punctuations. It also had many grammatical and spelling errors. The word 'Hi' was written as 'Hai' and 'college' was written as 'collage'.
We also noticed that the link attached to the viral message had a short URL (bit.ly). On clicking the link, we were directed to the website HugeDomains which claims to be a "leading source for domains".
The link however changed when we were directed to the website.
PIB Fact Check Andhra Pradesh on 24 June 2020 had debunked a similar WhatsApp message.
Lastly, we searched whether any such scholarship has been announced by the Central government and found no such scheme on the official website of the government of India. Nor did we find any news reported regarding the scheme.
It is therefore evident that the claim made through the viral message is a hoax. The Central government has not announced any such scholarship. This message has been doing the rounds since 2020.
