Hyderabad: The ruling National Democratic Alliance secured a crushing majority in Bihar’s Assembly elections, which concluded with counting on November 14, winning 202 out of 243 seats. The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 89 seats, and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) won 85, while the opposition Mahagathbandhan was reduced to just 35 seats.
Meanwhile, a video showing a minor accompanied by his father voting for the BJP on an EVM has been circulating on social media, claiming it is from the Bihar Assembly polls.
Taking a jibe at the Election Commission, an X user shared the video with the caption, “This child is not casting a vote. He is slapping the Election Commission on the face… #BiharElections.” (Archive)
NewsMeter found that the claim is misleading, as the video is two years old from Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal.
A reverse image search of the video’s keyframes led us to the same footage published by CNBC Awaaz on May 10, 2024.
According to the media outlet, the video shows BJP’s Bhopal District Panchayat member Vinay Meher making his minor son cast a vote. The channel reported that Bairasiya SDM registered an FIR against Meher, following which he was arrested. The entire polling party, including booth presiding officer Sandeep Saini, was suspended.
The report also noted that Meher himself had shared the video of his son casting the vote on social media.
Dainik Bhaskar also reported two years ago that an FIR was filed against the BJP’s Bhopal District Panchayat member Vinay Meher for making his minor son cast a vote.
According to a News18 report dated May 9, 2024, the incident occurred on May 7, 2024, during voting for the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh. The video was also published by IBC24 and Sagar TV News in May 2024, reporting the incident.
Therefore, we conclude that the claim of a minor casting a vote during the recently concluded 2025 Bihar polls is misleading.
