Hyderabad: Photos and videos of a woman being murdered by a man in broad daylight with passersby watching has gone viral on social media with the false claim that the victim is Pragya Mishra, a TV reporter. It has been claimed that Pragya Mishra was murdered in broad daylight because she was "talking about kumbh mela in the era of coronavirus".

Below is the viral video. Viewers' discretion advised.

This claim is FALSE as the victim in the photos and video is not Pragya Mishra. She has been identified as Neelu Mehta.

Fact Check:

NewsMeter took keyframes from the viral video and found several news reports that carried the same video. However, all reports said the woman in the video was stabbed 25 times by her husband in full public view in Budh Vihar area of northwest Delhi. (Click here, here, and here to read)

The police identified the victim as 26-year-old Neelu Mehta who worked at the Safdarjung hospital in Delhi. Neelu was reportedly killed by her husband who suspected she was having an extra-marital affair, according to an NDTV report.

The same video was published by Republic World.

Hence, the claim that the victim in the video is TV anchor Pragya Mishra is FALSE.

Furthermore, the viral claims indicate that Pragya Mishra is now allegedly dead. This is false as Mishra has been active on Twitter since the date of the incident. NewsMeter checked Mishra's activities on Twitter and found her recent posts and retweets indicating she is alive and well.
