Hyderabad: A report by Lokmat, a Marathi news organization, claimed that the Central government is likely to announce a nationwide lockdown across the country to curb the spread of COVID-19.
This is a false claim as the government is not likely to announce a nationwide lockdown.
The Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has recently stated that there is no plan to impose a countrywide lockdown. The Centre will concentrate on creating small containment zones to curb the spread of the deadly virus but no countrywide lockdown will be imposed. Several news reports have covered this issue and all reported that there will no countrywide lockdown.
A recent video report by the ABP News showed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that India does not need another lockdown as the country has sufficient resources to tackle the disease and treat the patients. He advocated more focus on micro-containment zones.
Furthermore, the Lokmat news report was also termed false by the Press Information Bureau of India. "A report by Lokmat claimed that the government is likely to announce a nationwide lockdown across the country to curb the spread of #COVID19. #PIBFactCheck: This claim is #Fake."
