FACT CHECK:

We performed a reverse image search and found the original image by Reuters from June 2012. The image is credited to B Mathur and the title reads, "Mamata Banerjee walks after her meeting with Sonia Gandhi, at her residence in New Delhi".

We compared the original image to the viral image and found that the hand gestures and walking style are the same. It proved that the viral image is fake.

We found the images of Banerjee in a wheelchair carried by THE PRINT and BUSINESS STANDARD and found the background is the same. (Notice the men in the background)

The 2012 image was edited to make it seem as if Banerjee was wearing a saree with a dark-blue border (similar to the one she wore upon being discharged).

Evidently, it is clear that the viral image is fake and that Banerjee did not "walk away" from the wheelchair.
