Hyderabad: CCTV footage of armed men barging into a house and robbing a family at gunpoint is viral on social media.

Users claim that the incident happened in Navi Mumbai.

"4 delivery boys separately entered society with a pretext to deliver a parcel in different flats. All 4 were actually part of the same gang... Searched for an open-door flat... Barged in and looted the residents... The home camera captures the ordeal. This happened in Balaji Tower, Nerul, Navi Mumbai. Ensure the Security of your Apartment. Be more vigilant (sic)," reads the thumbnail of the video

Fact Check:

The claim is false.

NewsMeter performed a keyword search with the words 'family robbed at gunpoint' and found several news reports about the incident that took place in Delhi's Uttam Nagar in July. The reports feature screengrabs from the CCTV footage.

On July 8, 2021, India TV reported, with a headline Family robbed at gunpoint in west Delhi's Uttam Nagar. Similarly, India Today also reported the incident on July 13, 2021.



According to the Times of India, the incident took place on July 7, 2021. Around 2:15 pm, armed men barged into the house of a realtor and looted cash and jewelry worth several lakhs after holding the family at gunpoint afternoon at Uttam Nagar in west Delhi. It further reported, The house owner, Vinod, was away at work, and his wife Seema, mother, brother-in-law Sachin, and two children aged four and three were at home.

Even, NDTV reported the incident.

Therefore, it is evident that the claim is false. The robbery took place in Delhi, not in Mumbai.
