Fact Check

The claim is misleading.

NewsMeter performed a Google reverse image search that led to a video uploaded on a YouTube channel, Samajwadi Akhilesh, on 31 October 2021. The video description reads, "Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's brilliant speech on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti from Lucknow Public School, Hardoi."

The viral clip appears at the 10-minute mark. In the original video, Akhilesh can be heard saying, "Sardar Patel, father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Jinnah, all studied in the same institute to become barristers. They became barristers and fought for the freedom of the country. They did not step back from any challenges."

Taking a cue from this, NewsMeter ran a keyword search which led us to a report by Amar Ujala from 31 October. It said that the former Chief Minister had targeted Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP during a public meeting held at Lucknow Public School in Madhoganj town, Hardoi district.

The report said the SP chief had said the government should pay true tribute to Sardar Patel by withdrawing the three agricultural laws. Patel, Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, and Jinnah had fought together for the country's Independence, Akhilesh said, according to the report.

Another report by NDTV had quoted Yadav's speech, "Sardar Patel, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Jinnah studied at the same institute and became barristers. They became barristers and they fought for India's freedom. They never backed away from any struggle."

It is evident that the claim made in the viral post is misleading. A part of Akhilesh Yadav's speech has been taken out of context and shared with misleading claims.
