Fact Check: Did Alia Bhatt endorse Priyanka Gandhis poll promise?

Hyderabad: A video of Alia Bhatt is widely being shared on social media. Users claim that she was endorsing Priyanka Gandhi's poll promise of providing scooters to the female graduates in Uttar Pradesh.

In the video, she can be heard saying, "Priyanka has promised scooties for us. In a few days, we will be riding our own scooties."

On October 21, 2021, Priyanka Gandhi had announced smartphones for class 12 girls and electronic scooters for female graduates as part of the Congress' election manifesto in Uttar Pradesh which is going to the polls next year.

Fact Check

The claim is False.

NewsMeter performed a simple keyword search which led us to an advertisement aired on the YouTube channel 'Hero MotoCorp' on August 16, 2019. The team noticed that the viral video had only half part of the original advertisement. The team had also noticed that the lip-sync of Alia Bhatt in the viral video does not match.

We also found a tweet by Hero MotoCorp on August 27, 2019, that had also included the advertisement video.

Fact Check team then found a report by Financial Express on March 24, 2019, headlined `New 2019 Hero Pleasure spied with Alia Bhatt during TVC shoot: Activa-i rival launch soon?'

The report also had a screengrab from the advertisement.

NewsMeter had lastly compared the visuals of the viral video and the original advertisement. Both were the same.

It is therefore evident that the viral claim is False. The 2019 Hero Pleasure Plus advertisement featuring Alia Bhatt has been edited.
