NewsMeter found the claim to be misleading.

With the help of the Internet, NewsMeter searched for the news about renaming. The team found reports about Amit Shah's three-day recent visit to Andaman and Nicobar.

Fact-checker looked for such announcements via press releases by the Ministry of Home Affairs but found none.

We searched with relevant keywords about renaming any island as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the team came across two-year-old media reports on the rechristening of some islands in Andaman and Nicobar.

According to these reports, PM Modi in December 2018 had renamed Ross Island as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep. Modi renamed three Islands as a tribute to Netaji. Neil Island was named Shaheed Dweep and Havelock Island was named Swaraj Dweep on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of his Tricolour hoisting at Port Blair.

However, the correspondent found an MHA press release on October 16. During his visit, Shah inaugurated and laid foundation stones of various development projects from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island in Andaman and Nicobar.

Shah tweeted about the same on his official Twitter account.

Hence, it is evident that Amit Shah has not renamed Andaman and Nicobar Islands as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Islands. In 2018, one of the islands in the Union territory was named after Netaji.
