A news card is widely being shared on social media claiming that Bharatiya Janata Party, Tamil Nadu president, K Annamalai has said that petrol prices won't go up.

Hyderabad: A news card is widely being shared on social media claiming that Bharatiya Janata Party, Tamil Nadu president, K Annamalai has said that petrol prices won't go up.


"Fear of rising petrol prices after the election is unnecessary. If petrol prices go up, hit us with sandals, said BJP leader Annamalai," the message said.




Fact Check

The claim is False.

NewsMeter began its investigation by searching for any such news reports related to the claim. However, we did not find any such news related to it.

We then noticed that the viral news card had the logo of News7 Tamil, a local media organization in Tamil Nadu. Taking a cue from this, we searched for the viral news card on the social media handles of News7 Tamil. The search led us to a tweet by the official Twitter handle of News7 Tamil on March 07, 2022. The news organization had dismissed the viral claim as fake.

Apart from this, we also found a tweet by Bharatiya Janata Party state president, IT and Social media CTR Nirmal Kumar. He had also stated the viral news card is fake.

Hence, it is evident that the claim is False. No such statement was made by Annamalai. The viral news card is a hoax.
