Fact Check: Did Barack Obama say God this holiday sucks?

Hyderabad: Social media users claim that former President Barack Obama was heard passing disparaging remarks on July 4, 2013.

God this holiday sucks! All this national pride stuff gets on my nerves," the image quotes Obama as saying. The post alleges he "muttered" the statement while "believing that his mic was off (sic)," reads the post

Fact Check:

NewsMeter found the claim is false.

Firstly, there is no record of Obama making such a statement. NewsMeter reviewed the transcript of his remarks during the 2013 July 4 celebration on the White House's South Lawn published by the Obama White House website. We found no such remarks by Obama.

Secondly, we searched for a video of that day, we found that the former President can't be heard saying anything negative about Independence Day or national pride in PBS NewsHour's Youtube Video of the speech either.

Thirdly, we searched for news articles about the statement attributed to him in the Facebook post. We found no news reports about the alleged incident.

Even, `check your fact', a fact-checking the website, also debunked the claim saying that it is a political satire.

Hence, the claim is false. It appears that social media users have been sharing quotes that are edited.
