Fact Check: Did DMK MP criticize Udayanithi for not paying homage to Lavanya?

Hyderabad: A post related to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Member of Parliament S.S Palanimanickam is viral on social media.

Users claim that Palanimanickam criticized Udayanithi Stalin for not paying homage to Lavanya who died by suicide.

"Lavanya, the daughter of a DMK volunteer, has committed suicide due to proselytizing. Similarly, it is very disappointing that Udayanidhi did not come in person and pay tribute," reads the post.



Fact Check

The claim is False.

NewsMeter began its investigation by performing a keyword search. However, we did not find any news report related to the claim.

We further noticed that the viral newscard had a mention of 'Thanthi TV'. Taking a cue from this, we searched for any such news aired by the media.

During the search, we found a tweet by Thanthi TV on January 24, 2022. In the tweet, the media organization had clearly mentioned the viral news card is fake.



On further investigation, we also found a tweet by S.S Palanimanickam on his official Twitter handle on January 24, 2022.

Sharing the viral news card, Palanimanickam tweeted, "We strongly condemn those who engage in such activities. #Fakenews."

Hence, it is evident that the viral claim is False. No such statement was given by Palanimanickam.
