Hyderabad: A photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi bowing down to Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is being shared on WhatsApp. This comes as Gulf countries condemned remarks made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma about Prophet Mohammad.

Fact Check

NewsMeter performed a reverse image search and found the original image in reports published by NDTV and The Economic Times in 2013. The photo shows Narendra Modi bowing down and greeting veteran party leader Lal Krishna Advani at a public rally in Bhopal.

The photo created an uproar on the internet as Advani did not acknowledge Modi's gesture but looked away. The two leaders were sharing the stage publicly for the first time after Modi was made the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate despite Advani's reservations.

The whole incident was broadcasted by multiple media organisations. (Click here and here to watch the videos.)

It is clear that the viral image is fake.
