Fact Check:
NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The video is from 2019.
On a reverse image search, we found handles named BJP Hosur and Pandi DM sharing the same video in February 2019.
Further, we found a clarification issued by the Tirupathur District Police on their official handle on February 27, 2025, about the incident: āA video is being shared in the social media platforms with the claim that people were seen engaging in a tussle with a sub inspector of police from Vaniyambadi town police station. The incident is from 2019, and people are spreading the video, stating that the incident happened recently.ā This confirmed that the video is old.
The district of Vellore was trifurcated into Vellore, Tirupathur and Ranipet, with the then chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announcing it during the Independence Day celebrations in August 2019. On November 28, 2019, Tirupathur became the 35th district in Tamil Nadu.
The caption in the viral claims stated that the incident happened in Vaniyambadi in the Vellore district. However, after trifurcation, Vaniyambadi became a part of Tirupathur district. Further, the incident happened under the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) regime in 2019.
Therefore, NewsMeter concludes that the claim is false.
