Fact Check: Did Ram devotees march to Ayodhya for Hindu Rashtra?

Hyderabad: A video of a large number of men chanting 'Jai Shree Ram' is viral on social media.

Users are claiming that devotees of Lord Rama reached Ayodhya with a demand to declare India a Hindu nation.

"All Ram devotees have reached Ayodhya demanding India to be declared as the Hindu nation. Every Hindu has a dream to see India as a Hindu nation. India is ours," reads the English translation of the message.

Fact Check

The claim is False.

NewsMeter firstly performed a Google Reverse Image Search which led us to a video uploaded on a YouTube channel in 2019. The video was shared with the title "Durgamata Daud, Miraj Vibhag".

The team found a similar video on another YouTube channel uploaded in 2019 that had similar visuals.

At 2 seconds, there were many of the shops in the background out of which the team could spot 'Laxmi Sports'.

Taking it as a reference point, the team searched for 'Laxmi Sports Miraj Vibhag', which led them to a Justdial link of a shop called "New Shree Lakshmi Sports" in Sangli.

It is therefore evident that the viral claim is False. The viral video is not from Ayodhya, but Maharashtra. The video dates back to 2019.
