Hyderabad: A post claiming that Tamil Nadu BJP state president K. Annamalai has said that people who eat fish are not Hindus is being widely shared on social media.

NewsMeter received the viral post on WhatsApp.


The post has been doing the rounds since January 2022.

Fact Check

The claim is false.

NewsMeter searched if any mainstream media had reported about Annamalai's statement but couldn't find any reports on the same. However, we did find many posts on Facebook that said the viral statement was false.

We also found a tweet by 'Junior Vikatan' that had shared a news card that said Annamalai had not made any such statement.

NewsMeter had earlier debunked similar claims.

It is evident that the claim made through the viral post is false. Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai did not say people who eat fish are not Hindus.
