FACT CHECK
NewsMeter performed a keyword search and found an article by The Hindu and New Indian Express from 2018 that reported a hike in bus fares in Tamil Nadu. The same amounts as mentioned in the viral picture are mentioned in the 2018 reports too.
According to the reports, the fare of regular buses increased by a rupee while the fare of express/semi-deluxe was hiked from Rs. 17 to Rs. 24. The fare for Volvo buses went from Rs. 33 to Rs. 51, air-conditioned buses from Rs. 27 to Rs. 42, ultra-deluxe from Rs. 21 to Rs. 33 and super deluxe from Rs. 18 to Rs. 27.
In addition to this, the government also increased the minimum fare from Rs. 3 to Rs. 5 and passengers were charged Rs. 1 to Rs. 10 towards the toll gate fee.
The Tamil Nadu government had increased the ticket fares of buses after six years. The last time the ticket fare was hiked was in November 2011.
Moreover, there has not been any recent news of a hike in bus fares in Tamil Nadu. Evidently, the hiked bus fares from 2018 are being shared as a recent hike in fares.
