Hyderabad: A post circulating on social media claims that two minor Dalit girls in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, attacked two men who tried to rape them and cut off their hands and feet.

Fact Check

The claim is false.

NewsMeter performed a keyword search but did not find any report related to any such incident that took place in Etah, Uttar Pradesh.

We found a tweet by the Etah police from 12 September 2021 saying the news was misleading and had been taken out of context.

We then found a tweet by the official Twitter account of Uttar Pradesh police fact check team where it denied the viral claim and called it fake news. The tweet read, "According to the Etah police, the incident of attempted rape of two girls in the Kotwali area, after an investigation, was found to be untrue and it was refuted by the Etah police. Please don't spread rumors by posting misleading information without verification." (translated)

It is therefore evident that the claim made through the viral post is false and no such incident has been reported in Etah, Uttar Pradesh. An incident relating to some young girls taking corn from a field has been taken out of context and shared with misleading claims.
