HYDERABAD: A picture of people sleeping on a platform is circulating on social media. Users claim that Uttar Pradesh Teachers Eligibility Test (UPTET) aspirants were sleeping in the open a day prior to the exam.

Netizens are sharing the picture and calling out the BJP government for not making any arrangements for the aspirants. The text shared with the picture reads, "Had to spend the whole night like this in the cold and get to know in the morning exams are canceled. The government should be ashamed."

The test was canceled due to an alleged paper leak.

FACT CHECK:

The claim that these are UPTET aspirants is false.

NewsMeter performed a reverse image search and found an article by Dainik Bhaskar carrying a similar image with the headline, "Rajasthan's unemployed reached Priyanka Gandhi's house in UP; girls also on dharna".

According to the article, unemployed youths of Rajasthan had come to meet Priyanka Gandhi on November 27 and had spent the night outside in protest.

Rajasthan BJP chief Satish Poonia also tweeted the above image writing, "Unemployed youth of Rajasthan who are on dharna outside the Congress office in Lucknow in the winter for their legitimate demands."

Hundreds of unemployed youth were protesting in Jaipur for their demands including preference in recruitments to the natives of Rajasthan and law to declare cheating a non-bailable offence in competitive exams.

After Jaipur, the protestors moved to Lucknow to meet Priyanka Gandhi who is raising the voice for the youth of Uttar Pradesh with a hope that she will help the unemployed of Rajasthan.

Uttar Pradesh government's official "fact check" account debunked the viral claim and confirmed that the viral picture is not of UPTET aspirants.

Moreover, with regards to this case of misinformation on social media, Deoria police (Uttar Pradesh) arrested a youth for sharing fake photos of the UPTET aspirants sleeping on a platform. Superintendent of police Deoria said the picture was of another examination in Rajasthan.

Clearly, people in the viral image are unemployed youth protesting in Rajasthan, not Lucknow.

Therefore, the claim that the UPTET aspirants spent the whole night sleeping on a platform in harsh winters is false.
