Hyderabad: A video of an elderly woman singing is being widely shared on social media with the claim that the woman is the famous playback singer Suman Kalyanpur.
The video is being shared with the caption, "Suman Kalyanpur singing the song at the age of 84."
The video is viral on Facebook and can be viewed here.
Fact Check
The claim is false.
NewsMeter performed a Google reverse image search that led us to a video uploaded on the Facebook page of AmbaGopal Foundation on 2 October 2021. The video was captioned, "International Elders Day 2021 is celebrated by AmbaGopal Foundation." This video had similar visuals to that of the viral video.
We then searched for the AmbaGopal Foundation and found its official website. The website had published several images from the International Elders Day celebration, including an image of a woman who looked like the woman in the viral video.
We noticed that the banner in the background was similar to the one in the viral video.
Taking this as a cue, we performed another Google reverse image search which led us to a report published by the Times of India on 4 May 2020 titled "Elderly living alone in Mumbai turn into surprise buddies for stressed doctors during coronavirus lockdown." According to the report, the woman was Aruna Prakash, a 78-year-old widow in Juhu, who had been speaking regularly to her 10 "new buddies''.
We then compared a screengrab from the viral video to the image of Aruna Prakash and Suman Kalyanpur. This proved that the woman in the viral video is not Suman Kalyanpur.
Hence, it is evident that the claim made through the viral post is False. The woman in the viral video is not famous playback singer Suman Kalyanpur.
