Hyderabad: A screenshot of a tweet, that claimed to be from the official Twitter account of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said that BJP has formed an alliance with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) for the upcoming West Bengal elections scheduled next year has gone viral.
The screenshot of the tweet dated November 20, 2020, read, "We have formed an alliance with AIMIM in upcoming WB elections."
The tweet that claimed to be from the official account of BJP is FAKE. No such alliance has been made.
Upon observing the image closely, we noticed that the handle in the viral image is 'bjp4india', whereas the official Twitter account of BJP is '@BJP4India'. We also noticed that the viral image doesn't mention 'quote tweets'. It should be noted that such important news would definitely garner more attention and would have more engagement.
Next, NewsMeter searched for this tweet on the official Twitter account of BJP and for news articles related to the viral claim and found none. On the contrary, we found several reports about AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi offering a pre-poll pact to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to help defeat the BJP in the Assembly Polls. "Owaisi has reportedly said that his party will assist Trinamool Congress (TMC) in defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state assembly elections. AIMIM seeks to focus on the minority-dominated districts of Murshidabad, North Dinajpur and Malda," reads Swarajyam.
It is clear that the viral tweet is fake and no such alliance has been made between the BJP and the AIMIM. Hence, the claim is false.
