Hyderabad: Posts that claim farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has been arrested by the Delhi police are circulating on social media. Kisan Ekta Morcha, the official Twitter account for all exclusive updates on the farmers' protest, also tweeted that Tikait was arrested in Delhi.
The claim of Tikait's arrest is false.
In response to Kisan Ekta Morcha's tweet which has now been deleted, the official Twitter account of DCP East Delhi tweeted that the viral news is fake. The tweet read, "Fake news! News related to the arrest of Rakesh Tikait is incorrect. Pl, stay away from such fake news/tweets. Action will be taken for spreading such false news/tweets."
The Ghaziabad police also clarified that the news of Tikait's arrest is false and that punitive action will be taken against those spreading fake news.
Rakesh Tikait himself clarified via an Instagram post that the news of his arrest is false. He further added that he is currently at the Ghazipur border and that everything is normal.
Kisan Ekta Morcha, later, confirmed that Tikait is safe at Ghazipur and the news of his arrest is fake. It also shared a video of Tikait addressing the issue and clarifying that the news is false.
Evidently, the claim that farmer leader Rakesh Tikait was arrested by the Delhi police is false.
