Hyderabad: An Instagram video showing a train moving through a flooded railway track at a station is circulating on social media, with claims that it was filmed at Guwahati Railway Station. (Archive)
NewsMeter found that the claim is false, as the video is from Mumbai.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the video led us to an extended version posted by several users on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube (another link here) on May 27, who claimed that it was filmed at Masjid station in Mumbai after heavy rainfall.
Clues within the video
In the extended version, we also noticed the text āCRā and a āMasjidā station board. The acronym CR indicates that the train operates under the Central Railway, which covers Mumbai, whereas Guwahati falls under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone. This further confirms that the video is not from the claimed location.
Reports confirming flooding at Masjid Bandar Station
On May 26, the X handle of the media outlet Pune Mirror posted a video reporting that heavy rainfall had caused waterlogging at Masjid Bunder Station.
According to a May 26 report by The Indian Express, commuters in Mumbai experienced major disruptions as heavy rainfall, brought on by the early onset of the monsoon, severely impacted public transportation. Local train services on the Central and Harbour lines were heavily affected, and the cityās first underground Metro service also faced interruptions due to the relentless downpour. The report further noted that around seven inches of water had accumulated on the railway tracks in and around Masjid Bunder railway station.
Hence, we conclude that the video shows waterlogging at Mumbaiās Masjid Bunder railway station, not Guwahati Railway Station. The claim is false.
