Hyderabad: An image of a security check is viral on social media. In the picture, a gunman can be seen frisking another gunman. Users claim it is a security check outside Kabul airport.
NewsMeter performed a keyword search which directed us to a report by Reuters published on August 22, 2021. According to the report, the command of the airport has not yet gone into the hands of the Taliban and for this reason, many countries are evacuating their citizens. For the safe operation of the airport, many western countries including America and Britain have deployed thousands of soldiers at this airport in Kabul.
We took the help of Google reverse image search to check the veracity of the viral claim. We found this picture is on the profile of Twitter user 'yemenfelix1'.
Memories from #yemen: Houthi soldier searching a man going into a rally: Qat, daggers & machine guns allowed! pic.twitter.com/TFevPYz9pv
We then found a video bulletin uploaded on the verified YouTube channel of 'CBS Evening News' on June 16, 2015, in which the viral image can be seen at 1.22 minutes.
It is therefore evident that the claim is False. The image of Houthi rebels rallying in Yemen is being shared as a security check outside Afghanistan airport.
