Hyderabad: A screenshot of an alleged tweet by actor Naseeruddin Shah is viral on social media. The tweet upon translation roughly reads, "A man who can build an 8 feet high wall and fool the President, for him it's not a big deal to fool blind followers". As the comments go, many assumed this tweet was intended to mock Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
One such post was shared over 20,000 times.
Fact Check:
The tweet is fake.
NewsMeter searched for the username 'RealNaseeruddi' but did not find any account with that name on Twitter. All accounts linked to Naseeruddin Shah on Facebook and Twitter were found to be fake. This indicates that the viral image was not a real tweet posted by Shah.
We also found a tweet by actor Anupam Kher who had tweeted on this issue. He says that Shah has clarified that all his accounts on Facebook and Twitter are fake.
This is not the first time such fake posts were made in the name of Shah. In February 2021, when a fake post falsely linked to Shah went viral, veteran actor Ratna Pathak Shah confirmed that her husband, Naseeruddin Shah is not on Twitter. "Mr Shah doesn't have a Twitter account but has been unable to stop these fake accounts". "We have tried to complain to the company as well as the Cyber Crime Police here but were told there's nothing that can be done. Please help us to put an end to this nuisance," she added.
