Fact Check: IOC is not providing any `Fuel Subsidy Gift, viral claims are false

Hyderabad: Social media users are sharing `Indian Oil Fuel Subsidy Gift link.

On clicking on the link, we can see the logo of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and a text which reads"'We have a wonderful gift for you. Click to claim."

Fact Check

The claim is a hoax.

NewsMeter noticed that the viral link does not mention Indian Oil.

When we clicked on the link via mobile, we were directed to a website. It was not the official website of Amazon. The text on the website reads, "Indian Oil Fuel Subsidy gift! Through the questionnaire, you will have a chance to get a gift card worth 6000 Rupee"

The questions include: Do you know Amazon? How old are you?; What do you think about Amazon? Are you a male or female?

After the quiz, we were then directed to a page where we could see some texts. "You have answered all 4 questions, Your IP address is valid for this promotion, and gifts are available and in stock," reads the text.

Along with the texts, the page had included a few comments. Every time we visited the page it showed '11 of 183' comments.

After this, the page showed that the answers were successfully saved. It asked to select the correct box with the gift inside. Visitors were allowed 3 attempts.

Later a page with around nine gift boxes appeared on the screen. They vanished in seconds. We could not even click on any of the gift boxes.

On further investigation, we visited the Facebook page of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. A post about this has been made on the verified Facebook page of the company on 15 April 2022.

"This is a #fake website. All contests being run by #IndianOil will be posted only on our official website and social media accounts. If you happen to come across this, don't answer the questions," reads the post.

Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check team also stated that the viral link has nothing to do with Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

Hence, the claim is a hoax. Indian Oil Corporation Limited is not providing any Fuel Subsidy Gift.
