Hyderabad: India crossed the 100 crore vaccine mark on October 21. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya called it 'Diwali of self-reliant India'.
A post is widely being shared on social media claiming that India is the first country that has crossed the 100 crore vaccine mark.
"India is the first country to administer 100 crore vaccines #vaccinecentury," reads the post of former Haryana cabinet minister.

The claim made through the viral post is False.
NewsMeter performed a keyword search which led us to the website of the National High Commission of the PRC. "More than 2.234 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered on the Chinese mainland as of Monday, data from the National Health Commission showed on Oct 19," the report said.

"As of October 17, 2021, China had administered about 2.23 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccine. About 6.67 billion doses of the vaccine have been administered worldwide. Vaccines developed by the Chinese pharmaceutical companies `Sinovac' and `Sinopharm' have received approvals and advance purchase agreements," said a report published in `Statista'.
On March 28, 2021, The Hindu reported: "China crossed the 100 million-landmark amid a stepped-up campaign at home, which reached a new daily high of 6.12 million vaccines administered on Friday."
"With close to 1.4 billion people, India is the second to exceed a billion cumulative doses after the most populous country China," News18 said in its report on October 21.
"India is the second-most populous country globally after China. China has fully vaccinated about 75 percent of its citizens. The US is the third country globally in terms of population and has fully vaccinated about 58 percent. Indonesia, which is fourth in terms of population, has fully vaccinated over 23 percent of its people, and Pakistan, standing fifth, has vaccinated only 16 percent of its population fully," the report said.
It is therefore evident that the claim made through the viral post is False. India is not the first country to cross the 100 crore vaccine doses mark. India is the second country to cross the 100 crore vaccine doses mark.
