Hyderabad: Over 40 people lost their lives in the stampede on September 27 at the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) political rally, headed by party chief Vijay. The rally was a part of the actor-turned-politician’s tour of Tamil Nadu.

Several videos are circulating on social media claiming to show the aftermath of the tragedy. In this context, a video showing a uniformed police officer performing CPR on a person is going viral.

The Tamil text on the video reads, “Even though she is a policewoman, she is still a mother—fighting till the very end, giving breath to give life. An angel… Though the youth was on the verge of death, despite giving him breath till the very end, his eyes did not open.”

The video was shared on X with hashtags linking it to the Karur stampede tragedy.

The caption reads, “Look at these self-proclaimed critics blaming the police in this incident, how do you even have the heart to blame them? #TVKVijay #Karur #JusticeForKarurVictims”. (Translated from Tamil) (Archive)

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. It shows a home guard attempting to give CPR to her son, who died by suicide. The incident took place in Arrah, in Bhojpur of Bihar.

Using reverse image search of the viral video keyframes, we found a video shared to X on July 31. This video shows the same incident as the viral video. A comparison of screenshots from both videos can be found here.

The caption stated, “A home guard’s teenage son hanged himself. She is trying to give him CPR while the journalist is asking why the son hanged himself!” (Translated from Hindi)

The video contains a logo of ‘V of Voice Bihar’ and the location tag states ‘Arrah’. Arrah is a city in the Bhojpur district of Bihar. In the video, we can hear the police official saying that the boy’s name is Mohit Raj.

Through this lead, we found the same video uploaded to Instagram on the same day. The caption stated, “A heartbreaking scene unfolded at a hospital in Ara, Bihar, on July 30, 2025, where a female home guard, Chandni Kumar, tried desperately to revive her 15-year-old son, Mohit Raj, who had died by suicide.”

The post also said that despite doctors declaring him dead, Chandni Kumar attempted CPR in despair.

ABP Live published a report on the incident using a screenshot of Chandni Kumar attempting to give CPR to her son. The report was published on July 31 with the title, ‘A woman home guard’s son dies in Ara; mother continues to administer CPR, urges him to get up, but…’

The report stated that this incident took place at Arrah’s Sadar Hospital on July 30. It confirmed that the video shows a home guard, Chandni Kumar, attempting to give CPR to her son, Mohit Raj, who died by suicide. Dainik Bhasker and Jagran have also published reports on the incident.

The video is not connected to the Karur stampede tragedy. It shows a home guard attempting to give CPR to her son, who died by suicide. The incident took place in Arrah, Bihar.
