Fact Check:
The claim is misleading.
NewsMeter has not come across any report about the reduction in diesel prices in Delhi. If the Delhi government had taken such a decision, it would have been discussed everywhere and there would have been news about it on the internet. We found July 30, 2020, report when we searched with keywords.
On this day, CM Kejriwal had announced to reduce VAT on diesel from 30 per cent to 16.75 per cent. Due to this, the price of diesel in Delhi was reduced by Rs 8.36. ABP News also ran news about this, whose video was uploaded on YouTube on 30 July 2020. The claim screenshot has been taken from this video.
In fact, in May 2020, the Delhi government increased VAT on diesel from 16.75 per cent to 30 per cent. According to reports, this decision was taken to increase the revenue of the government. In July 2020, VAT on diesel was again reduced to 16.75 per cent. At present, according to the Indian Oil website, VAT on diesel in Delhi is Rs 13.14.
It is clear Delhi government has not taken any such decision recently. At present, the price of petrol in Delhi is Rs.101.84/Litre and that of Diesel is Rs.89.87/Litre.
Hence, the claim is misleading.
