Hyderabad: A video of the BJP Kerala president, K. Surendran, criticizing his own party is going viral on WhatsApp.
In the video Mr. Surendran can be heard saying, "How many good things have happened here for the Muslims under the Narendra Modi government? Muslims are being victimized, persecuted and threatened by the Sangh Parivar. They are being attacked by mobs."
Fact Check:
NewsMeter found the same speech on the Facebook page of Kerala media organization Manorama News. Mr. Surendran delivered the speech last month at a function organized by the BJP against the SDPI in Kozhikode. He talks about the SDPI carrying out terrorist activities in the country and killing BJP-RSS activists in Kerala.
In the video, Mr. Surendran says that the Narendra Modi government has done good things for Muslims. He argues that it is only the evil propaganda that is being spread in people's minds to incite hatred against the BJP. He talks about the passive approach of the Communists to gain the popular vote and allowing terrorist cells to be established in Kerala. He talks about how Kerala is becoming a center of terrorist activity in India.
He can be heard saying, "Who is inciting hatred after carrying out this vile propaganda?ā¦Muslims are being victimized, persecuted and threatened with attack by the Sangh Parivar. Mob attacks are possible against them. This is what Deshabhimani spreads every day. Isn't this what Marxist party leaders say every day? Where are Muslims being attacked, persecuted and victimized? Are they portrayed as second-class citizens? How many good things have happened here for the Muslims under the Narendra Modi government."
It is clear that his speech was edited. Nowhere does he say that the BJP government was attacking Muslims. In fact, he talks about Marxist party leaders constantly campaigning against Muslims.
The full video of the event was uploaded by Mr. Surendran on his Facebook page.
It is clear that the viral video has been edited and shared with a false claim. Kerala BJP president K.S Surendran did not criticise his own party. Neither did he say BJP was attacking Muslims.
